1. Take a Notary Training Course
A new notary applicant; a notary whose commission has been expired for more than 365 days or a renewing notary who has had a violation in the past four years, must attend and successfully complete a course of study provided pursuant to NRS 240.018.
The Nevada Secretary of State’s office is the official provider of notary training classes. Class schedules may be found on the following website: http://www.nvsos.gov/notarytraining/schedule/schedulelist.aspx. After completion of this class, a Training Certificate will be issued.
This Training Certificate must be attached to the Notary Application.

There is a $45 fee for the class, due at the time of registration.
1) Check the class availability before submitting registration form.
2) If you have not received your confirmation notice, you may call and verify your registration 36 hours before the scheduled class by calling (775) 684-5708.
3) Cancellations request must be submitted more than 7 working days before the date of the registered class, no refunds with be granted if received after the 7 day cutoff.
4) Once you are registered for a class there is a $10.00 fee to switch to another class. Transfers to another class must be completed 7 working days before the date of the registered class. No refunds can be issued if the request is received after the 7 working day deadline.
5) Any registration form received without the appropriate fee will be returned and will not be processed.
6) If you submit your registration form and the class is closed, we will return your request via first class mail.
2. Obtain Surety Bond

Once the bond is obtained an oath must be given. The oath can either be administered by the county clerk or another notary.
The surety bond is filed and recorded with the county clerk in the county you reside. If you are applying as a Non-Resident notary that is the county you are employed. Contact your County Clerk for the current fee to file the bond. Here's a link to a listing of Nevada County Clerks: http://www.nvsos.gov/index.aspx?page=163.
The county clerk shall immediately certify that the bond and oath have been filed and recorded. The county clerk will return the “Filing Notice” to the notary applicant. THIS FILING NOTICE MUST BE ATTACHED TO YOUR NOTARY APPLICATION.
3. Submit Completed Application, Required Documents & Application Fee
Please check that you are sending an ORIGINAL signed Application, plus any other supporting document/forms, including but not limited to:
1) Application, plus any other supporting document/forms
2) Filing Notice from County Clerk
3) Training Class Certificate
4) $35.00 Application fee may be paid via check payable to the State of Nevada, money order or via credit card. If paying by credit card, please complete the credit card checklist and submit with your application.

4. Receive Your Commission
The application processing time is 7-10 business days if application is complete. Your Notary Certificate of Appointment will be sent to you via regular US Mail.
